Some times… in China

My career - some decades and counting - has been in the UK Film and TV industry, the Arts and education; photography has been central to all of those as a practitioner and teacher. There is no commercial angle or intent to earn a living from the work here, and much of it was only shown in public for the first time last May 2025 in a retrospective at the Communication University of China, Beijing, where I worked for ten years.

The content on this site is focused - for now, anyway - on my work and travels in China from 2010 to the present. There is more information about that under the ‘Publications’ tab.

I hope you get the sense that the photographs here are a personal reflection of an intimacy and understanding of a culture and people that has developed over those years; something which I’m aware takes many visits and I’m privileged to have had that experience.

There’s no particular theme here, and it’s not been easy to curate and select what’s really just a handful of images from literally thousands. Essentially, I’m a storyteller, and photography is a great way of exploring that. I’m hoping that it shows something of my relationship with the country - small, valuable lives in far off places.
